For this experiment I did several trials to figure out which measurements of the reactants would create the best product. For the first four trials I played with various measurements of close to equal grams between both iodine and aluminum, and found that little to no reaction would occur. After trying and failing several times I researched that the experiment is best done in a mole to mole ratio, which consisted of 1:1 for this experiment. I calculated that close to three times as much Iodine is needed as aluminum to create the reaction similar to the one in the video on my previous wiki page. With the correctly calculated 1:1 ratio my experiment was successful, with both Iodine smoke and flame. I completed this experiment successfully in class, with the witness of my fellow students who happened to be very impressed. I chose this experiment mainly for the visual effects, and for the small amount of chemicals needed to create such a magnificent product.
